Just back from... We share with you some of our recent journeys. South Africa gripped me from the moment I arrived. Cape Town’s mix of ocean, mountains and restless creative energy felt instantly addictive, and wandering its neighbourhoods revealed a city that is both deeply complex and effortlessly welcoming. Standing on Table Mountain one morning and cruising out to Robben Island that afternoon set the tone for a journey defined by contrast and surprise. Leaving the city for Stellenbosch, I slipped into a slower rhythm shaped by vineyards, heritage architecture and some of the best food and wine I’ve ever tasted. Staying on a historic estate surrounded by hills and quiet countryside made it easy to understand why this region has become such a cultural and culinary hub. And then came the safari. Hidden deep in the Valley of the Taaibos River, I woke to the sound of the bush and spent each day tracking wildlife across a private reserve. Watching white rhino at sunrise and sipping sundowners as the landscape turned gold was nothing short of extraordinary. I recently returned from Vietnam, and it’s a destination that sweeps you up from the moment you land. One minute I was navigating the thrilling chaos of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the next I was sinking into the stillness of Con Dao’s white‑sand beaches. What struck me most was the contrast: vibrant cities, soulful heritage, extraordinary food and a level of hospitality that feels genuinely heartfelt. The journey was defined by moments of discovery, from lantern‑lit evenings in Hoi An to unforgettable street‑food adventures in Saigon, each revealing a new layer of the country’s character. Vietnam suits families, couples and curious travellers alike, and it left me energised, inspired and already planning my return. Antarctica had always been somewhere we dreamed of experiencing, and earlier this year we were fortunate enough to finally make that journey together. Not only was it an extraordinary adventure, but it also marked a special milestone for us: stepping onto our seventh continent. Our trip began in Santiago, where we spent a few days exploring the city before heading south to Punta Arenas. From there we boarded a flight to King George Island to join the Sylvia Earle, Aurora Expeditions’ state‑of‑the‑art expedition ship. Stepping onto the island for the first time, surrounded by glaciers and vast snowy landscapes, was an unforgettable moment and the beginning of an incredible expedition. Over the next ten days we explored the Weddell Sea and the Antarctic Peninsula, visiting some of the most remote and remarkable places we have ever seen. Each day brought breathtaking scenery and unforgettable wildlife encounters. We watched humpback whales feeding close to the ship, spotted 6 Swords Travel Magazine | Spring / Summer 2026 Antarctica Our Seventh Continent by Mark & Stuart Swords

orcas moving silently through the icy waters and visited vast colonies of penguins scattered across the snow-covered shores. Seeing seals resting on floating ice and towering glaciers calving into the sea, made every landing feel extraordinary. One particularly memorable stop was Port Lockroy, home to the southernmost post office in the world. Sending postcards to family and friends from such a remote corner of the planet felt incredibly special. We also took part in the infamous polar plunge, jumping into the icy Antarctic waters: a shock to the system but a once-in-a-lifetime experience we couldn’t resist. We stayed at the Four Seasons Buenos Aires (a hotel we absolutely loved) before flying home with unforgettable memories of the most extraordinary continent on Earth. “Antarctica was one of the most extraordinary trips we’ve ever experienced. 10 Swords Travel Magazine | Spring / Summer 2026 The Art of Slow Living Rediscovering Andalusia and introducing Bodrum’s new ‘Adults‑Only’ retreat. OKU Andalusia and OKU Bodrum offer parallel expressions of this philosophy. One opens on the Atlantic-kissed coast of southern Spain with design cues inspired by Andalusian traditions and naturally suited to families. The other is a new adults‑only opening on a hillside above the Aegean. Both resorts share a thoughtful design language, a focus on simple, well‑made food and a commitment to barefoot comfort. Yet each property has its own rhythm and its own interpretation of what slow living can feel like. “OKU is a brand I really enjoy recommending. Andalusia works beautifully for families, while other properties such as Ibiza and Kos feel more suited to couples. The design is stunning, the atmosphere relaxed and the service consistently excellent.” Call Mark to find out more on 0203 907 1100 There is a quiet ease that defines OKU, shaped by warm woods, sun‑bleached stone and spaces created to slow the pace of the day.

For further details call 0203 907 1100 | 11 OKU Bodrum A More Refined Pulse on Turkey’s Aegean Perched on a quiet hillside above the Aegean, OKU Bodrum is an intimate, boutique adults‑only retreat designed for guests seeking space, calm and a more refined expression of slow living. Rooms and suites are shaped around privacy, many with their own pools, generous terraces and uninterrupted sea views. The design is warm and minimal, using natural textures, soft tones and open layouts that create an easy flow between indoors and out. The adults‑only focus shapes the atmosphere. Quiet pools, relaxed beachfront areas and serene wellness spaces set an unhurried pace, while private cabanas and shaded lounges give couples and friends room to unwind. Days move gently between the seafront jetty, the spa and long lunches, with Teyo bringing its Japanese‑inspired dishes to a setting made for lingering. Evenings settle into a slower rhythm with cocktails by the water, dinner under the stars and a sense of escape that feels effortlessly grown up. OKU Andalusia A Sanctuary in the Hills Further west, OKU Andalusia rises from a hillside overlooking the Los Alcornocales nature reserve, its terraces stepping down toward views that stretch to Gibraltar and, on clear days, the outline of Morocco. The landscape is wilder here, with wind‑brushed hills, cork forests and a coastline shaped by centuries of trade. The resort mirrors this natural drama with a grounded, glamorous design, using dark woods, stone and woven textures, with suites that spill out onto private pools or rooftop terraces. OKU Andalusia works just as well for couples as it does for families, with integrated adults-only spaces - such as a trendy new beach club - for a more sophisticated atmosphere, while shaded family areas, calm shallows at the beach and a dedicated kids' club make days easy for families. Children move freely between pools, nature and play spaces, while parents settle into long breakfasts, relaxed lunches and quiet corners to unwind. Teyo returns here too, bringing its Japanese‑inspired dishes to a setting that feels intimate and elemental, with menus that suit families and couples alike. It is a place where time for all guests feels unhurried and where the rhythm of slow living comes naturally.

Koh Samui remains one of Thailand’s most magnetic summer destinations, defined by soft beaches, coconut groves, and a rhythm that feels instantly restorative. Its appeal lies in contrast: lively beach towns balanced by quiet coves, stylish resorts set within tropical greenery, and a dining scene that moves easily between barefoot cafés and refined, sea‑view restaurants. Warm seas, reliable sunshine, and a sense of laid‑back luxury give the island a contemporary, easygoing character that continues to draw travellers back year after year. Koh Samui is wonderfully easy for families, with calm beaches, warm shallow seas and gentle adventures like Ang Thong Marine Park or visits to the Big Buddha. Its relaxed pace, friendly atmosphere and nature‑rich experiences give children space to explore and parents a simple, stress‑free holiday. 12 Swords Travel Magazine | Spring / Summer 2026 Koh Samui for families Island Icons Samui’s Coolest Corners for family and adult-only escapes. “Thailand is somewhere I’ve been lucky enough to visit many times. I love helping clients discover the right balance of culture, beach and luxury, whether that’s exploring vibrant cities or relaxing at one of the country’s beautiful island resorts.” Call Carla to find out more on 0203 907 1100 For adults, Samui reveals a quieter, more refined side: serene beaches, hidden coves, elegant dining and restorative spa rituals. Evenings unfold at a slower rhythm, making the island ideal for unwinding, reconnecting and enjoying Thailand in a more tranquil, grown‑up way. Koh Samui for adults

Santiburi remains one of Koh Samui’s most established luxury resorts, set along a sweeping stretch of Mae Nam Beach and surrounded by 23 acres of tropical gardens. Its scale is one of its greatest strengths: villas and suites are widely spaced, pathways wind through mature greenery, and the beach (pictured far left) is broad, quiet, and beautifully maintained. The atmosphere is calm and residential, supported by warm, attentive service that feels both polished and personal. Santiburi is also one of the island’s strongest family propositions. Multi‑bedroom villas, a well‑run kids’ club, and a thoughtful programme of activities, from cooking classes to water sports, give families space to settle in without compromising on style. With a championship golf course, a generous wellness offering, and multiple dining options, the resort suits guests seeking a full‑service, refined escape with room for everyone to unwind. Santiburi Koh Samui Space, Style and Luxury for all the Family SAii Koh Samui Villas delivers a more intimate, design‑driven take on island luxury, set on the northeast coast with a boutique layout that immediately feels calm and curated. Villas prioritise privacy, all with private pools and generous outdoor terraces that create a seamless indoor‑outdoor flow. The architecture is clean and contemporary, favouring natural textures and soft palettes that appeal to travellers who prefer a quieter, more refined environment. A small, secluded beach reinforces the resort’s adult‑leaning atmosphere, while dining is thoughtful and unfussy, focused on quality rather than spectacle. Service is relaxed but attentive, creating a setting where days move at an easy pace. SAii naturally attracts couples and solo travellers seeking a stylish, low‑key retreat shaped by space, calm, and contemporary ease.
