Aurelio Lech Hotel & Club Lech am Arlberg, Austria Hotel Kristiana A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World Lech am Arlberg, Austria An exquisitely decorated 29-room Alpine retreat with the feel of a private residence rather than a hotel, Kristiania Lech Hotel is just a short walk from the centre of Lech. Originally built by Olympic ski champion Othmar Schneider as a private chalet to entertain his friends on their adventures in the Arlberg mountains, Kristiania Lech has retained its intimate feel thanks to Gertrud Schneider and her tailor-made team. Like father, like daughter, Gertrud continues to make international guests feel instantly at home in what feels more like staying at a relative’s eclectic residence from the sixties than a hotel. 50 With 44 staff looking after 18 rooms (10 suites in the hotel and eight in the Aurelio Club), it is hardly surprising that the Aurelio takes spoiling its guests to a new level. Both hotel and club are perfectly situated for summer or winter adventures, on or off the mountains. It is surrounded by the magnificent peaks and pistes of Omeshorn, Rüfikopf and Kriegerhorn, and an easy walk to Lech’s glamorous shops and traditional bars and restaurants. The exteriors exude alpine chalet charm whilst the classic yet modern interiors are dripping in chic appeal. Located next to the slopes, this is the best ski-in/ski-out address in Lech. Although, considering all that is on offer you would be forgiven to rephrase as ski-in/stay-in! Accomplished gourmet cuisine from award-winning chef Christian Rescher and his number two, Markus Niederwanger match in taste the pampering to be had at the indulgent 1,100m2 spa with all the latest equipment, a 23-metre pool, aromatherapy steam rooms, saunas, herbal and floral baths, and a coldplunge pool. Linked to the hotel by an underground walkway, the Aurelio Club offers the facilities of the hotel but as a stand-alone private use chalet sleeping up to 20 in six double bedrooms and two suites. Launched in 2009, Aurelio Club was Austria’s first ultra-luxury chalet, and remains one of the plushest pads in the Alps today.
